
Since its commencement of operations in 2023, the Ukrainian maritime corridor has facilitated the movement of over 197 million tonnes of freight.
This information was conveyed by Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, subsequent to a productive visit to the Odesa region.
He highlighted that grain constituted 117 million tonnes of this transported volume.
«Notwithstanding continuous acts of terror by Russia, Ukrainian ports persist in their operations, guaranteeing exports, bolstering the economy, and fulfilling an absolutely vital role for numerous nations globally,» Kuleba stated.
During discussions involving port leadership and representatives from the Odesa regional and city military administrations, the participants deliberated on safeguarding port infrastructure and personnel in light of persistent Russian assaults.
Kuleba pointed out that certain ports have already achieved notable success in deploying protection mechanisms. This encompasses, notably, the establishment of mobile air defense units and alternative strategies that contribute to sustained terminal functionality, even during bombardment. The intention is to disseminate this expertise to other port facilities within the region.
